Hi there ! 👋

I’ve been working on looker for over a year now and I’m always discovering cool new things.

In this article, there are 7 of my favorites ! 🕵️‍♂️

1. Open an explore from a file

You can open an explore by clicking on the arrow next to the file name.

It works on explore files and views files included in the explore.

You need to include the explore file in the model, otherwise it doesn’t work.

2. Change code editor for vim or emacs

As a student, I used vim a lot and was sad to lose all vim shortcuts on Looker. But luckily you can choose to change your text editor to vim (or emacs).

Go to account > Text editor mode > vim/emacs

3. Get file path in your clipboard

This is very useful for including a file inside another file.

4. Object Browser

I don’t know why, but I’ve only been using this powerful feature for a few weeks.

It’s really interesting when you want to see all files linked to an object, or to find a field.

5. Git integration

When working in a team, sometimes you need to know what change was made by whom, this feature is perfect for that !

You must at least enable “Show links” in the Git Integration section on the project configuration page.
